General Information

Inter-Library Loans are a co-operation of libraries to obtain literature from other libraries. The rules for ILLs are laid down in the Leihverkehrsordnung, the German ILL regulations.

How do I order ILLs?

Books and journal articles not held by us can be ordered by you via online-ILLs through our  catalogue. If you haven’t found the title you are looking for in the University Library’s catalogue, you can search again in the SWB online catalogue and order your ILL from there.

How much does it cost? How long do my ILLs take?

Each ILL order costs €1.50. This is a processing fee, this means that this charge also applies if the book or journal article is unobtainable. When sending off your ILL order the fee will be charged to your library account. The fee includes obtaining and returning the book, or photocopies of up to 20 pages. Unfortunately we are unable to tell you how long an order takes to arrive; expect a waiting period of one to two weeks.

Collection, loan period, return

We will notify you of the arrival of your order via e-mail. You can collect and return your ILLs at the loans desk. Reference-only items will be kept for you for the entire loan period at the loans desk where you can collect them for use in the reading rooms. The loan period for ILLs is generally 4 weeks, a renewal is not possible. If you do not return an ILL book on time you will be charged regular overdue fines.
