Using electronic resources

You are allowed to make copies and reproductions for your personal academic use only. Please observe the

From where can I access these resources?
The library is increasingly offering information that can be accessed online, mainly e-books and databases. Resources licensed by us can be accessed from all stationary computers on campus.
In addition members of university can use a number of databases off campus via VPN:
Please enter the following URL:
https://vpn.reutlingen-university.de and register using your computer centre login.
The Computer Centre's instructions on how to set up VPN access are available at:
http://www.reutlingen-university.de/fileadmin/_doku_extern/VPN-Zugang.pdf
After your VPN login you are offered a list of bookmarks:
- HSB catalogue (Katalog der HSB) - to access e-books (see below)
- DBIS - to access databases
- EZB - to access electronic journals
Off-campus access to e-books
As a member of university you can download e-books from outside the campus network via VPN.
- Please open the URL https://vpn.reutlingen-university.de/.
- This brings you to the VPN login page. VPN stands for Virtual Private Network, this means you log into the university network with your
computer centre login (= the one you use for your e-mails). - After successfully logging in you will see a list of library resources. Open the link "Bibliothek Katalog".
- You are now searching our catalogue as if you were using a computer within the campus network (and are therefore authorised to access
e-books).
E.g. search in the advanced search modus ("Erweiterte Suche") for
Author (Autor): Papula
Media type (Medientyp): e-book - Your result list will contain all e-books by Papula.
- Click on the title you want. There is a link to the full text amongst the bibliographical details(?). When clicking on this link you are connected with the full-text title on the server of Springer publishers (SpringerLink).
- You can download the book chapter by chapter (as PDF files). Using the right mouse button click on the PDF symbol of each chapter and select "Save target as" from the context menu. Now you can choose where on your computer you want to save the PDF file of this chapter. Rename the file because all files on the Springer server are called "fulltext.pdf".
How can I save my search results?
- E-mail: Some databases offer the possibility to send the documents you have found via e-mail. You have to enter your e-mail address so the data can be sent to you.
- Download: On our computers you can save the data onto your USB stick.
- Print: Bring your own paper and print out the articles you have found online on our printer. Ask a member of staff on the loans desk for assistance.
