International Full-Time Degree-Seeking students

• Certificate of university entrance qualification (HZB, Abitur or an international equivalent)
• Proof of having taken the study orientation test (teaching degree programmes: www.bw-cct.de; other bachelor's degree programmes: www.was-studiere-ich.de)

• Proof that you have undertaken academic counselling when changing degree programmes from the 3rd semester onwards
• Proof that you have received academic counselling for university admission for working professionals

To be admitted to a degree programme, you must provide proof of either a general or a subject-specific university entrance qualification that meets the admission requirements for a University of Education.

Educational credentials obtained abroad must meet the academic standards of the German Abitur. Ludwigsburg University of Education will assess their equivalence based on the guidelines provided by the Central Office for Foreign Education (Zentralstelle für das ausländische Bildungswesen) as part of the application process.

For EU citizens, the selection process follows the same rules as for applicants with German qualifications: grade average in school leaving certificate and further professional qualifications or experience especially in pedagogical areas.

For international applicants from outside the EU, a selection process is only applied if there are more international applicants than the number of places reserved from them (5%). In this case, the grade from your university entrance qualification will be the main factor in the selection process, and other academic achievements will be considered as secondary factors.

You must provide an official translation of your original certificates if they are not issued in German, English or French. The translation must be carried out by a diplomatic or consular representative of the Federal Republic of Germany in your home country. If you are already in Germany at the time of your application, the translation must be done by a certified translator.

Your documents can be officially authenticated at the German embassies or consulates in your home country. In Germany, any public office with an official seal (such as city halls, registration offices, or citizen service centres) can certify documents. Certification by an official notary (Notar) is also an option. The certification must include the following:

• a statement confirming that the copy matches the original
• the signature of the certifying official
• an official seal

An official seal typically includes an emblem. A simple text stamp is not sufficient.

If the copy consists of multiple pages, each page must clearly show that it is part of the same document. You may provide a copy with the certification note and the signature on only page if the pages are stacked in order, overlapping and with the official seal partially visible on each page. Alternatively, each page may be certified individually. In this case, ensure that your name is either written on each page of the original document or included in the certification notes, along with a reference to the type of document. If the copy is double-sided and both sides are relevant, the certification note must apply to both sides (e.g., “I certify that the copies on both the front and the back sides match the original.”). Alternatively, each side must be certified separately. If the certification does not meet these requirements, the university cannot recognize the document.

At German state universities EU and EEA students study tuition-free. Non-EU/EEA students pay tuition fees at a rate of €1.500 per semester. Please note that as an international student you must provide proof to the Immigration Office (Ausländeramt) that you can fund your entire stay (proof of financial resources) in order to receive a residence permit. You will need around 992€ per month for a modest lifestyle in Germany.
