Summer Semester 2012:
Name: Ted Strohmeier
Home University: University of Kentucky
I majored in German studies at Transylvania University, a small liberal arts institution in the heart of Kentucky`s second largest city, Lexington. While an undergrad, I completed a semester abroad in Regensburg, Germany and subsequently earned my BA from the university in May 2010. After taking a year off, the University of Kentucky, also in Lexington, offered me a fellowship at the PH Ludwigsburg for one semester, in order to improve my German before I began my Masters degree. I decided to stay an additional two semesters, and will begin my Masters degree at the University of Kentucky in August 2012.

I received a BA in German language and literature from the University of Kentucky in 2007, and have since been studying for my masters program. I currently teach introductory German at the university of Kentucky and provide tutoring assistance to students requiring attention beyond the classroom setting. I participated in a language exchange in Akita, Japan during the summer of 2010. There, I worked with Japanese children in order to introduce the ideas of cultures and languages different from their own. As I progress toward my Ph. D. studies, I hope to explore issues in the interrelation of gender/sexuality constructions and minority identity in German society.
