We support teacher training students in gaining international experience during their studies and in school practice, with a view to strengthening their intercultural skills.
To this end, we are taking the following measures:
1. Mobility windows in all teacher training programmes
Objective: places embedded within the curriculum that can accommodate periods abroad or international modules. This means easier recognition and predictable ECTS credit transfer for stays abroad.
2. Combined study and practical placements
Objective: To expand specific placement opportunities in our partner cities: Cluj-Napoca (Romania), Oslo (Norway), Nijmegen (Netherlands) and Copenhagen (Denmark). The first allocation of places has already taken place for the 2026/27 academic year. Students can then complete their ISP/BP/PP abroad and will be supported by trained training advisors throughout.
3. Intercultural reflection seminar + online support phase
4. 20-ECTS country module “Teaching Social Sciences for an Interconnected World”
Objective: To develop a course package with OsloMet (Norway). Students (both incoming and from within the University of Education) can take a compact, English-language module. The first intake for students from the partner university took place in the summer semester of 2026.
5. Digital module “Critical Global Citizenship”
Objective: Creation of a digital, hegemony-critical module enabling students to complete a recognised international study programme without spending time abroad.
6. AI Teaching and Learning Lab / AI Literacy and Advisory Chatbot “PHLumi”
Objective: To establish an AI lab, including workshops (e.g. “How to prompt”), a toolkit and a tutor service. The AI chatbot PHLumi was implemented at the end of 2025 and can be found, amongst other places, on the homepage for incoming and outgoing students.
7. Train-the-Trainer and Peer-to-Peer Support for Internships Abroad
Objective: Training student e-tutors/peer mentors to provide virtual support for outgoing students. Annual workshops are planned to ensure students receive accessible support during their placements.
8. Short-term programmes & summer schools
Objective: To organise study trips, summer schools, guest lectureships and a theatre education conference. This is intended to provide you with opportunities for short-term mobility and subject-specific international modules.
