Combined study and work placement

As part of the INVITE 2.0 project, Ludwigsburg University of Education is specifically expanding the opportunities for combined study and work placements abroad.

A combined study and work placement is a period spent abroad that includes both study at a higher education institution and a work placement (practical experience) abroad. It combines practical professional experience with academic education.

Three types of placement are available within the KSPA:

1. an integrated semester placement (ISP),
2. a professionalisation or block placement (PP/BP),
3. a voluntary placement.

The KSPA programmes are organised and funded through the INVITE 2.0 project. INVITE 2.0 is a Lehramt.International project funded by the DAAD and the BMFTR, which aims to promote the internationalisation of teacher training.

Combined study and work placements are available in the following countries:

• ISP in Romania (UBB, Babeș-Bolyai University,Cluj-Napoca)
• BP/PP in Norway (OsloMet, Oslo) - An ISP is also planned for Oslo from the 2027/2028 winter semester onwards.
• BP/PP in the Netherlands (HAN University of Applied Sciences, Nijmegen)
• BP/PP in Denmark (University College Copenhagen, Kopenhagen)
   

• For the ISP in Romania, you will be assigned to the Colegiul Național George Coșbuc in Cluj-Napoca, a school with a German-language stream and, in consultation with the university, choose two additional courses at Babes-Bolyai University.
• For the BP/PP at OsloMet, please select the course Sustainability and Outdoor Education.
• For the BP/PP programme at Han University of Applied Sciences, please select the course Education in International Perspective.
• For the BP/PP programme at University College Copenhagen, you can choose between two courses Physical Education (PE) or Musical expression in Teaching and Learning but then have to choose the work placement as an ‘elective course’: Integrative teaching practicum (30 days at a primary / lower secondary school)*

Funding for combined study and work placements will be available from the 2026/2027 academic year for the winter or summer semesters. Funding opportunities are planned until 2029.

INVITE 2.0 awards one scholarship per academic year and per destination country for a combined study and work placement.

The funding amounts are as follows: 

Academic year 2026/2027: one combined study and work placement each in:
 

• UBB, Babeș-Bolyai University (ISP) –  Funding amount: €425 for travel and €1,235 per month for the stay
• OsloMet (BP/PP) –   Funding amount: €325 for travel and €1,355 per month for the stay
• HAN University of Applied Sciences (BP/PP) –  Funding amount: €350 for mobility and €1,110 per month for living expenses 
• University College Copenhagen (BP/PP) –  Funding amount: €375 for mobility and €1,235 per month for living expenses

Academic year 2027/2028: one combined study and work placement each at:

• UBB, Babeș-Bolyai University (ISP) - Funding amount: €425 for travel and €1,235 per month for living expenses
• OsloMet (ISP)– Funding amount: €325 for travel and €1,355 per month for living expenses
• HAN University of Applied Sciences (BP/PP) – Funding: €350 for mobility and €1,110 per month for living expenses 
• University College Copenhagen (BP/PP) – Funding: €375 for mobility and €1,235 per month for living expenses

Academic Year 2028/2029: one combined study and work placement each at:

• UBB, Babeș-Bolyai University (ISP) - Funding amount: €425 for travel and €1,235 per month for living expenses
• OsloMet (ISP) – Funding amount: €325 for travel and €1,355 per month for living expenses
• HAN University of Applied Sciences (BP/PP) –  Funding: €350 for travel and €1,110 per month for living expenses
• University College Copenhagen (BP/PP) – Funding: €375 for travel and €1,235 per month for living expenses

You are applying in the normal way for a semester abroad. 

As part of our previous project, INVITE, students were already able to gain practical experience at our INVITE 2.0 partner universities in Copenhagen and Nijmegen.
