Your Stay at Ludwigsburg

All beginnings are difficult - in the first few weeks you will be confronted with many new impressions. We will be happy to help you to quickly find your way around the university.

Buddy-Programme

You’re not alone! Besides the team of the International Office that is here to support you, there is the possibility of having a “buddy” by your side! A buddy is a volunteer student from Ludwigsburg University of Education and your first contact person that helps you with questions and challenges that may come up during your stay abroad. They will also assist you with your arrival, move-in, orientation and organisation here in Ludwigsburg. A buddy might even become a good friend that you can plan some activities outside of university with and that will help you integrate into German culture. We kindly encourage you to say yes to the buddy-programme in your application!

Arrival

Move-in day is normally the first working day in October (winter semester) or April (summer semester) between 8.00 am - 4.00 pm.

Please note: Move-ins in the Student Village on weekends (Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday) and on public holidays are not possible!

As there is no gate/reception with a permanent caretaker service in the Student Village, no one can give you the key to your room on weekends or on holidays. In this case, you will have to pay for an overnight stay in a hotel or youth hostel yourself. So please consult a German calendar when planning your trip. For example, October 3rd and Easter are public holidays in Germany!

STUTTGART Airport:

Follow the green S-Bahn sign down the first flight of stairs, select "VVS" at the ticket machine, then enter the station "Ludwigsburg Favoritepark", pay and continue downstairs to the trains.
Here you can either take the S-Bahn No. 2 to Schorndorf or No. 3 to Backnang. Both will take you to Stuttgart main station.
Get off there and just stand on the track. You wait for the next train to Ludwigsburg and can get on again directly. Just take the S-Bahn No. 4 to Marbach or the S-Bahn No. 4 in the direction of Backnang via Marbach.
You pass Ludwigsburg main station and then get off at the next station "Favoritepark". The PH campus and the student dormitory (“Studentendorf”) are only a few meters away.

FRANKFURT Airport:

It is best to go to the Deutsche Bahn travel center or to a ticket machine and buy a ticket to Ludwigsburg, Favoritepark stop.
Then first take the train from the station at the bottom of the airport to Stuttgart main station.
Get off there and follow the green sign for the regional S-Bahn down. Then board the S-Bahn No. 4 to Marbach or the S-Bahn No. 4 in the direction of Backnang via Marbach.
You pass Ludwigsburg main station and then get off at the next station "Favoritepark". The PH campus and the student dormitory (“Studentendorf”) are only a few meters away.

STUTTGART Main Station:

It is best to buy a ticket to Favoritepark in Ludwigsburg if you have not already included the public transport in your ticket. You can do this either at the Deutsche Bahn travel center or at a ticket machine.

Arrival by CAR:

Please enter the address of the dormitory “Studentendorf” Ludwigsburg into your navigation system: Pestalozziwegweg 6, 71634 Ludwigsburg.
There are several parking options in close range to the dormitories: either park in the large P&R parking lot (Eduard-Spanger-Strasse) at Favoritepark or park in front of the student dormitory buildings (along Eduard-Spranger-Strasse 7).

Welcome Programme

Every semester, the International Office organises a free welcome programme for all international guest students before the start of the lecture period.

Your participation/attendance is expected.

It starts immediately after the official move-in day and lasts about one or two weeks, depending on the start of the lecture period. You will find the exact, updated dates for the coming semester either here on our homepage or in one of the information letters you will receive from us after your successful registration.

The welcome programme offers our exchange students a great opportunity to get to know friendly people and the local area and you will receive a lot of useful information about the studying process at LUE and life in Ludwigsburg.

Arrival day: help from buddies with handing over the keys / moving in / visiting IKEA / setting up the Wi-Fi.
Getting to know the surroundings: where are the nearest ATM, shopping facilities, pharmacy etc.?
Discovering the campus: we explore the library, canteen and more together.
Setting up the access to LSF (course registration system), explanation of the e-mailing system and Moodle (online learning platform).
Checking of the Learning Agreement and support for the course scheduling (making necessary changes and finding alternatives).
Registration with the Ludwigsburg city administration and enrollment at Ludwigsburg University of Education.
Assistance with setting up a German bank account and applying for health insurance.
International brunch where everyone brings a special dish from their home country.
Excursions to museums (guided tour of the Ludwigsburg Castle or visit of the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart).
Getting to know other students and having a lot of fun together!

Departure

You must be present in person when your room is checked by the residence hall caretaker on the last day before departure or directly on the day of departure. This is only possible from Monday to Friday until approx. 4 pm. Ideal days for your journey home therefore are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Don't plan any departures on saturdays, sundays or holidays!

Before departure, the following steps are necessary:

De-registration from the university
De-registration from Ludwigsburg city administration
Closing your bank account
Terminating your WiFi-access
Cleaning your accommodation
