Podiumsdiskussion im Rahmen des Olympic Study Days: “Balancing Gold and Green: Sustainability Challenges of the Olympic Games”

Online, Annette Hofmann in Kooperation mit dem International Council for Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE)

As part of its Agenda 2020+5, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has committed to addressing sustainability in the planning and delivery of the Olympic Games. In recent years, the first tangible outcomes of these efforts have begun to emerge, most notably with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which made significant strides in promoting sustainability compared to previous editions.
Nevertheless, achieving sustainability goals remains a major challenge for an event of this scale. The Olympic Games require extensive infrastructure, attract millions of visitors, and involve vast numbers of athletes, officials, and media representatives, each of which has a considerable environmental impact.
In this panel the following international scholars who specialize in the Olympic Games and environmental sustainability will share their latest research and perspectives:
Prof. Dr. Jeffrey Levine (USA), Drexel University
Prof. Dr. Daniel Svensson (Sweden), Malmö University
Prof. Dr. Pierre-Olaf Schut (France), Gustave Eiffel University
Prof. Dr. Annette R. Hofmann (Germany), Ludwigsburg University of Education, will moderate the panel.

The event will take place online on July 02 from 2 to 3 pm. Please register for the event on Microsoft Teams.
