If you have seen the video 'Conflict Resolution Model: the Stairway Model' than you must also watch this video. Because there are more ways to analyze and resolve conflicts than just with the Stairway Model. Gary Furlong, within his book "The Conflict Resolution Toolbox", introduces several other models besides the Stairway Model and so for example also the model: Triangle of Satisfaction. This video is also a part of an unit in the module Communication and Teambuilding in the Master's Program International Educational Management (INEMA).

In the upcoming weeks, we will present more conflict resolution models here.

05/05/2023 A conflict resolution model: the Stairway Model

In this new video for the Master's Program International Educational Management (INEMA) is the topic a conflict resolution model. The model is the Stairway Model. It is for the online course to the module Communication and Teambuilding and in two units of this online course the topic is conflict resolution. And in one unit we combine this video with a case study about a conflict and also with a video that shows a way to resolve this conflict. After the students have read the case study in Moodle und watch the two videos, they are instructed to write a comment in the forum about what they think of the conflict resolution recommended in the video. In this comment, students can apply their newly acquired knowledge about conflict resolution.

So if you are interested in the video and its content, click here (external link to YouTube) and watch it.

28/04/2023 Using Moodle's own database to connect students - three major benefits for self-study learning

The topic of Unit 03 in the online course Communication and Teambuilding is Improving Communication for Senders & Receivers. After students have worked with an interactive presentation, they can in the following assignment choose one of four questions to answer. Then they should post the answer to the selected question in a database.

This task is not particularly complex as instructional design, and it is not particularly creative. However, it has the advantage that all students have to post something, so they are actively involved in the learning process and see that fellow students are also working on this task. Similarly, students see the answers to the questions they have not worked with.

By collecting answers in this way, students can ...

  • actively apply their new knowledge and in this way consolidate it in their memory,
  • see the answers and reflections of others (and thereby may still learn something new), and
  • be motivated. Because they see that they are not learning alone, they are learning in a group. A group that is in the Master's Program International Educational Management (INEMA) being dispersed all over the world.

21/04/2023 Creating learning activites by using H5P

A new assignment in the online course Communication and Teambuilding, created with H5P. There are sixteen cards on the stack in the center of the picture. These are to be distributed so that they match the eight squares around the stack. The squares are titled according to well-known communication theories. According to their statements, the cards are to be matched. Such assignments are intended to enhance the interaction in the newly developed courses and in this way to promote the learning process and the self-study of the students.

14/04/2023 Models of communication

A new video from our production for the online course to the module Communication and Teambuilding for the Master's Program International Educational Management (INEMA). It is about models of communication. For a learning video it is relatively long. However, it is in the online course supplemented with questions by using H5P and thus used as interactive learning material in the online course.

So, if you want to watch this video click here (external link to YouTube).

07/04/2023 Starting with a new online course: Communication and Teambuilding

They were also able to make suggestions for the further development of the study program.

03/02/2023 The online course for the module Education Marketing on MOVE is nearly completed

The online course for the module Education Marketing is nearly ready now. It contains around 16 videos to watch, 4 interactive PowerPoint presentations to download, 7 MC tests for self-monitoring, 6 assignments with TaskCard, 5 forum assignments and additionally 4 general activations. The basic workload to complete this interactive online self-study course is approximately 17 hours.

So we will see and evaluate how students will accept the course and how they will work with it on MOVE in their self study.

27/01/2023 Activating teaching methods

In this new video for the Master's Program International Educational Management (INEMA) is the topic activating teaching methods. In this sense, one of the topics of the video is how lessons should be organized in order to best promote the learning process of the students. And likewise, the modules and units in the INEMA Master's program are also developed according to these principles.

So if you are interested in the video, click here (external link to YouTube) and watch it.

23/12/2022 Have a good time!

He wears it - with pride and charming.
We are taking a break. There will be news here in 2023.

We wish everyone a good time. And peace.

16/12/2022 Roles in learning

In this new video for the Master's Program International Educational Management (INEMA) is the topic roles in learning. In this sense, one of the topic in the video is the psychology of learning and therefore, for example, the phenomenon when a teacher tells something, each student understands it in his or her own way. That means, everyone understands it differently, based on his or her experiences and knowledge. And this individual way of learning must be respected by teachers (and as well instructional designers for digital learing content) as the basis for a successful learning process.

And this is also the base in our work, in which we developed the online courses for the study program.

So if you are interested in the video, click here (external link to YouTube) and watch it.

09/12/2022 Promotion: sales promotion

The second video about promotion from our video production for the module Education Marketing in the Master's Program International Educational Management (INEMA). It is about sales promotion.

So if you are interested in the video, click here (external link to YouTube) and watch it.

02/12/2022 Conference visit Moving Target Digitalisation 2022

This week the IDEN-Team visited the DAAD conference Moving Target Digitalisation 2022 in Berlin.

Digital education technologies offer the opportunity to promote internationalization and open up various forms of participation and mobility also in higher education. The DAAD actively supports digital internationalization at universities through its funding activities. And in this way the DAAD supports research and development projects in this area.

The conference was intended to provide an overview of these activities and to highlight new opportunities in the field of higher education and digitalisation.

In addition to presentations and discussion panels, a team member of the IDEN project was able to report his experiences in creating digital and interactive learning content over the past several months during such a panel discussion. Also members of other projects reported about their experiences.

25/11/2022 Promotion: personal selling

Again a (very short) educational video from our video production for the module Education Marketing in the Master's Program International Educational Management (INEMA). It was created with SimpleShow. This is the first of three videos about promotion respectively personal selling, sales promotion and direct marketing. This one is about the topic of personal selling. Students are instructed to watch these three short videos in preparation for a collaborative assignment and then complete the interactive online assignment in Taskcard.

So if you are interested in the video, click here (external link to YouTube) and watch it.

18/11/2022 Basic options and a model of promotion - part II

Again, a new video from our production for the module Education Marketing in the Master's Program International Educational Management (INEMA). It is about advertising and public relations. In the online course we combine this video with H5P. So, we do ask questions in the video and the students can work with this video in their self-learning-phase, by they watch the video and answer the questions during watching the video.

So, if you want to watch this video click here (external link to YouTube).

11/11/2022 Basic options and a model of promotion

Do you know the five traditional promotion mix tools that you can use to present and offer your services to your customers? Again a new video from the IDEN team for one of the newly developed modules in the Master's Program International Educational Management (INEMA), which explains these five promotion mix tools. So, if you don't know these five tools, you have to watch this video. It explains you the five tools, that you can use to be a profit company.

So click here (external link to YouTube) if you want to watch the video.

04/11/2022 Collaborative learning of students with TaskCard

Due to data security reasons, we started to use Taskcard in addition to Padlet. Taskcard stores significantly less private data of the users. In time, after we have used and tested both boards for a while, we will finally consider if we will use Taskcard only.

28/10/2022 The pricing process: internal and external influences on pricing

Again a very short video from the IDEN team for one of the newly developed modules in the Master's Program International Educational Management (INEMA). It explains which internal and external factors can influence the pricing of a product.

So click here (external link to YouTube) if you want to see the video.

21/10/2022 The pricing process

A new video from our production.

The video The Pricing Process is also a learning video in one of the modules that we are developing for the Master's Program International Educational Management (INEMA). It describes - like the title indicates - how the price of a product can be defined.

So click here (external link to YouTube) if you want to know how to define the price of a product, if you want to see the video.

14/10/2022 Filestage: another tool for the development of educational films

For the development of learning films (also with animations) we also use Filestage. The online tool offers the advantage that the film (created by the responsible person) can be viewed in preview by the team members and commented on by the members with markers in the film. After a discussion of the comments, the film can be finalized with the corresponding corrections and then published.

07/10/2022 Using SimpleShow to develop tutorial videos

The development of the online modules divided into the already mentioned units is progressing. In the units are also used the already mentioned learning videos. For the development of some animated videos we use simpleshow. Simpleshow is a good tool for creating videos that explain topics with animations.

30/09/2022 A new video from our educational film production

Again a new video from our educational film production lab, that produces the videos for the units.

So click here (external link to YouTube) if you are interested in the video and market segmentation.

23/09/2022 Collaborative learning of students across continents with Padlet

To support the learning process of the students at home in the master program INEMA and to motivate them to learn together regardless of the distance across the continents, we use Padlet.

In the self-learning phase, we give the students tasks to be worked on at home. For example, they have to answer two subject-specific questions after a learning assignment. They should then (1) publish their answers as a post on Padlet and (2) comment on one another's answers.

With this form of assignment the students should be motivated by the social interaction to answer the questions and reflect twice on the learning content. And likewise to be reminded that they are not learning alone and have fellow students with which they are learning together.

16/09/2022 Education as a service: the difference between products, services & experiences

A new video from our production.

Education as a service: the difference between products, services and experiences.

The video is also used in a unit in the Master's Program International Educational Management (INEMA) at PH Ludwigsburg.

So click here (external link to YouTube) if you are interested in the video and its content.

09/09/2022 Units on Move: always end the same way

The units we develop on Move end every time with the same chapters in the following order:

  • Summary
  • Ressources

This regularity should support the learning process. In the summary, each time again it is briefly explained what the students should now know, under ressources these sources are mentioned in summary, for reference as well as for the writing of the semester paper.

In addition, now we ask the students to comment the unit (if they want), in order to use the comments for the improvement and further development of the courses in the context of the course evaluation.

02/09/22 Activation for learning

In the units of the online courses we have developed on Moodle, students work with the learning content that is offered in each unit. In order to make it easier for the students to start the learning process, we regularly try to show the relevance of the learning content (or the current topic) by showing to the students that they have already been confronted with the topic in their life or that they will use the topic in their new job in the future (see post from 01/07/2022).

However, we are not doing this in every unit. Because - so that not every unit starts in the same way - we try to make it easier for the students to get started in some units by addressing the topic of the unit just before and reminding them about the topic, for example, in the form of a graphic with a quiz, as shown above.

26/08/22 The first attendance phase with hybrid classroom concept

Some video impressions from the first attendance phase of the first-year students in the INEMA program. The attendance phase took place in a hybrid classroom concept. Members of the IDEN team made the technical support.

So click here (external link to YouTube) if you want to see the video.

22/07/22 Summertime

It's summertime. So we take a break for a few weeks and then we'll be back.

Have a great summer.

15/07/22 Hybrid classroom session for first-year students

This week, a group of students in the Master's Program International Education Management (INEMA) came to Ludwigsburg for the first classroom session. The students come from a variety of countries, such as Egypt, Ghana, France, Italy and the USA.

For some of the students it was not possible to come to Ludwigsburg, for example a student from Turkmenistan. These students and a lecturer nevertheless took part in the classroom session via our hybrid classroom.

Overall, the lessons in this format worked very well. We still see some minor problems, such as the alignment of the microphones. However, these problems are easy to solve.

So, we will continue to use this format to enable all students to participate in the classroom sessions and also to make some time-consuming travel unnecessary in the future in the sense of sustainability.

08/07/2022 Interactive PowerPoint presentation in the units as learning content

In some units, parts of the learning content are included in interactive PowerPoint presentations. The presentations are made available to the students as learning material for self-study. We produce the presentation in the IDEN-team.

Students can click on the presentations in the units and the presentations will be downloaded and then start automatically. The content of the presentations is based on relevant scientific texts to the topic of the units and gives the content of the texts (in summary). The presentations are intended to support students in understanding the learning content and key points of the texts.

Nevertheless, students are also recommended to read the complete texts during the semester.

01/07/2022 Activation for learning and individual connection to the learning content

As already mentioned, each module in the master program INEMA is supported by an online course. The online courses are divided into the units also mentioned before. With the units we want to support the self-study of the students at home in the best possible way.

Some units start ... click here to read more about activation for learning and individual connection to the learning content.

24/06/2022 Hybrid classroom with small learning groups

A few weeks ago, we presented how we technically implemented a hybrid classroom where students are teached together in the classroom on campus and at home on their laptops. This concept is particularly recommended if the class is very large and if the lecturer has a large speaking part during to the classroom session and should therefore have his own camera.

With small classes on campus ... click here to read more about hybrid classroom with small learning groups.

17/06/2022 MC tests on MOVE

In the online courses for the INEMA program we implement multiple-choice tests in the units and between the units for the students' self-study.

This is for two reasons:

  • Self-study and self-monitoring
  • Learning analytics

Click here to read more about the reasons for using MC tests on MOVE.

10/06/2022 Navigation in the new designed modules and units

In the online modules that the IDEN team is developing for the INEMA program, students can navigate through the modules and units in several ways. This allows them to go directly to the learning content they are most interested or most needed at specific moments.

In addition to an interactive table of contents in each unit, students can also navigate between needed units (or to an overview of all units) using a map like the one shown above.

Click here to read more about using the map for navigation.

03/06/2022 Units: a short moment of structured learning

Before we continue in the coming weeks to describe the structure of the Units for the Master's Program International Education Management (INEMA), we still need to explain something basic about the Units. The units are not only high structured to help students to find and hold a clear learning structure to enhance the learning process, the units are also clearly limited in time.

Click here to read more about learning with the units on MOVE.

27/05/2022 Do you know what marketing is?

Do you know what marketing is? Do you know exactly what marketing is? If you can't answer one of these two questions, then watch the video What is marketing that explains exactly what marketing is. This is one of the videos we produced in the IDEN team. Students in the INEMA program also use videos like this to learn relevant terms in education marketing.

So click here (external link to YouTube) if you are interested in marketing, if you are interested in the film and its content.

20/05/2022 Didactic principles to support learning

For the Master's Program International Education Management (INEMA), the IDEN team develops digital learning materials such as the online courses (on Moodle) mentioned before, which contants, for example, interactive online quizzes and films. The learning materials we develop are designed according to didactic concepts that are intended to support students' self-study in the best possible way and to promote the learning process in this context.

Also the film with the title Didactic Principles to Support Learning was developed with this intention.

So click here (external link to YouTube) if you are interested in didadictic principles to supprt learning, if you are interested in the film and its content.

13/05/2022 The learning architecture of INEMA

For the Master's Program International Education Management (INEMA), we developed a didactic learning concept which is based on four pillars. We call it the learning architecture of INEMA and the four pillars are:

  • Learning through difference
  • Intercultural learning
  • Career-integrated learning
  • Online learning

The combination of these four pillars is an important base for an optimal learning process and a successful university studies.

So click here (external link to YouTube) to watch the video and learn more about the learning architecture of INEMA

06/05/2022 Why is it so important to define clear learing goals in online courses?

A few weeks ago we introduced the structure of our online courses. In the following we would like to discuss the first point of this structure: The learning goals.

To enable a successful learning process within an online course, it is very important to clearly define the learning goals of the current course (or current learning section) at the beginning of every course. This way, learners have a clear idea what competencies or knowledge they can achieve by working and learning with the current content. Or in other words, they have a clear goal and a clear reason why they should work with this content (sometimes at home without support), what competencies and what knowledge they will have after finish the course.

29/04/2022 Learning culture of INEMA

In the IDEN-Project we develop the online courses for INEMA. The online courses are a part of the learning culture of INEMA and should support the self-learning phase of the students in the best possible way.
The learning culture of INEMA based on the two following principles:

  • Community of practice and learning
  • Self-directed learning

So click here (external link to YouTube) to watch the video and learn more about the learning culture of INEMA.

22/04/2022 Units on Move

In the Master's Program International Education Management (INEMA) there is an online course on Move for each module that has to be taken as part of the program. MOVE is the digital online learning platform of the University of Education Ludwigsburg and is based on Moodle. In addition to the attendance phases, where the students learn in the classrooms of the partner universities (which take place a few times a year), the students can find all the learning content of the modules on MOVE and work on the learning content independently. In this way also they can prepare for the attendance phases and also work with the content after the attendance phases.

So it is important that the learning content on MOVE is offered in a well-defined structure in order to support the students' self-learning phase in the best possible way. In the IDEN Project, the units that we mentioned before will be developed by the project partners in the coming months.

08/04/2022 Organizing large group discussions

As mentioned in the last post, group discussions are a useful way to discuss topics or develop new ideas in class, at trainings, or conferences. Last week we described some ways to organize the discussions in small groups. Now we want to share some ways of organizing large group discussions. And also here there are some rules that help to make the discussion productive.

In the following video you will be informed about the three following ways how large groups can be organized:

  • World cafe
  • Open space
  • Appreciative inquiry

Click here (external link to YouTube) to watch the video to learn more about these methods.

01/04/2022 Organizing small group discussions

Group discussions are a good way to develop new topics or ideas in the class, during training sessions or in conferences. The new topic is then not presented by a lecturer or speaker in a frontal and monotonous way, instead it is worked out by the (prepared) participants themselves. However, it is important to define some rules for the discussions to enable them to be constructive.

In the following video you will be informed about the three following ways how small groups can be organized:

  • The fish bowl
  • Inside-outside circle
  • Think pair share

Click here (external link to YouTube) to watch the video to learn more about these methods.

25/03/2022 Storyboards

Before shooting, IDEN creates storyboards. It is especially useful for time consuming productions with many different camera angles. The storyboard is mainly used to visualize the script. This can be in the form of sketches but also photographs. When creating a storyboard, we mainly think about perspectives and different types of camera shots. But we also summarize ideas for animations. Above you can see an excerpt of the storyboard for our film "How to create a great PowerPoint".

18/03/2022 Video production process

The production of educational videos at IDEN is divided into the following steps:

  1. Concept
Brainstorming. On which topics would you like to produce a video?
What kind of video for example a screencast, geenscreen recording, interview… do I want to produce? How do I explain best?
  2. Scripting
Create your script. Either word by word or in bullet points
  3. Planning
What are your milestones and when do you want to reach them? When will you shoot and who will be involved? What kind of equipment do you need?
  4. Storyboard
A storyboard is like visual guide. How do you position the camera or your speakers? What will your set look like? A storyboard is especially useful for more complex productions with many settings.
  5. Shoot
Build up and disassembly of the set. Be sure to plan enough time so that you don't get stressed.
  6. Post-production
Material viewing. cutting. animation. compositing. sound editing.

11/03/2022 Which editing software do we use?

To create learning videos, we mainly use Premiere and After Effects from Adobe Creative Cloud in post-production. These are professional editing and animation programs. The special feature of Creative Cloud programs is their compatibility with each other. This makes it possible to work even more efficiently.
In addition to Premiere or After Effects, there is another professional editing program. Da Vinci Resolve is completely free and available for both Mac and Windows. Important functions such as editing, color grading, visual effects, motion graphics and audio post-production are also included in this application.

25/02/2022 How to create a great PowerPoint

PowerPoint presentations have always been a very important part of job and study life. Even though PowerPoint is a popular tool, it is a big challenge to create an amazing presentation.
How do we not slump in our chair when we hear the keyword PowerPoint presentation but look forward to new content? What can we do better and how can we create interesting and thrilling Powerpoint presentations? In our video "How to create a great PowerPoint" we have dealt with exactly this topic and give you the four ultimate tips to make your next PowerPoint way better than before!

Click here to watch the video.

25/02/2022 Hybrid teaching

Since Corona, hybrid teaching has become increasingly important. With decreasing infection numbers, face-to-face courses will become possible in INEMA again. However, this is sure to cause some problems. The restrictions and regulations are different in many countries and not everyone will be able to participate in face-to-face lectures. In order to make it possible for these students to participate, we have worked on the technical implementation of hybrid events.

The graphic shows the technical setup for a hybrid course. Here you find a detailed description of the setup and the possible equipment.

18/02/2022 What is behind IDEN?

It is often not easy to get insights into a project. Processes and backgrounds are often difficult to understand. For this reason, we have produced an animation video to give you a short overview of our project. What are our goals at IDEN? Which international project partners do we work with and what role does the IDEN team play in the implementation of projects? You can find all the answers to these questions and much more information in our explanatory video.

Click here to watch the video.

14/02/2022 New learning video online

We are very excited to publish our latest learning video "What is culture". The text for the video was written by Prof. Dr. Hartmut Melenk, a long-time lecturer of INEMA and expert on this special topic.

Everyone knows the term culture. But putting the exact meaning of it into your own words is bound to make some people break out in a sweat. If you are one of these people and you want to learn more about the exact definition and scientific understanding of culture, then you should definitely watch our latest video on this topic!

04/02/2022 Why we work with teleprompters

In order to inform INEMA students more about the competency goals of our program, we produced a film with our program director, Prof. Dr. Susan Harris-Huemmert.  One exciting experience for us was using the teleprompter for the first time.
